OTTAWA, ON, Aug. 18, 2026 /CNW/ -- Her Excellency the Right Honourable Louise Arbour, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will deliver remarks at the opening ceremony of the national 2SLBGTQI+ monument, known as Thunderhead, in Ottawa.
The 11-metre structure and public space acknowledge thousands of 2SLBGTQI+ people in the Canadian military, RCMP and federal civil service who, from the 1950s to the 1990s, saw their careers hindered or terminated because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
